Setting an internet page as a 'favourite'

Each internet browser has a slightly different way to be able to set a web page as a favourite. Some browsers refer to these as ‘Favourites’ or ‘Bookmarks’. Either way, they do the same thing – make it easy for you access the information you need quickly and easily.

More information about managing Favourites or Bookmarks will be available from your internet browser’s Help function.

To get you started, we’ve listed some of the most popular internet browsers and how to set a web page that you’d like to make a favourite.

  • Go to the page you’d like to set as a Favourite
  • Using the tool bar at the top of the page click ‘Favourites’
  • Click ‘Add to favourites’
  • You can rename the favourite and choose a folder to save it in
  • Click ‘Add’

To see your favourites

  • Click ‘Favourites’
  • Click the page you’d like to go to

For even quicker access, save the page to your Favourites bar.

  • Using the tool bar at the top of the page click ‘Favourites’
  • Click ‘Add to favourites bar’
  • You’ll see a link appear in the bar near the top of your web page

Favourites are called Bookmarks in the Chrome web browser

  • Go to the page you’d like to Bookmark
  • Click the star icon at the end of the address bar

Alternatively you can:

  • Go to the page you’d like to Bookmark
  • In the Chrome menu, click ‘Bookmarks’ and then click ‘Bookmark this page’
  • Choose a folder to save it in
  • Click ‘Done’

To see your bookmarks

  • Open a new tab in your web browser and you can see your Bookmarks

 Alternatively you can:

  • Turn on your ‘Bookmarks bar’ by going to the Chrome menu, click ‘Bookmarks’ and then click ‘Show Bookmarks bar’
  • You’ll see a link appear in the bar near the top of your web page

Favourites are called Bookmarks in Firefox

  • Go to the page you’d like to Bookmark and click the star icon at the end of the address bar
  • To edit details of your bookmark, click the star a second time to open the ‘Edit This Bookmark’ window
  • You can rename the Bookmark and choose a folder to save it in
  • Click ‘Done’

To see your Bookmarks

  • Type the name of your favourite in the address bar and it will auto populate with the link.
  • Press the Enter key, or click the link you want to go to

Alternatively you can:

  • Turn on the Bookmarks toolbar by going to menu, click ‘Customise’,  Click ‘Show/hide toolbars’ and choose ‘Bookmarks toolbar’
  • Click ‘Exit customise’

Favourites are called Bookmarks in Safari

  • Go to the page you’d like to Bookmark
  • Using the tool bar at the top of the page click ‘Bookmarks’
  • Click ‘Add Bookmark’
  • You can rename the favourite and choose a folder to save it in
  • Click ‘Add’

By default your bookmarked web page will be added to your Bookmark bar. If your bookmark bar is hidden, click ‘View’ and choose ‘Show Bookmarks Bar’.

Make sure you are using the Safari app

  • Click the 'Share' icon (box with an upwards facing arrow to the left of the Address bar)
  • Click 'Add bookmark' and edit the details
  • Click 'Save'

Please note that an internet browser shouldn’t be confused with a search engine such as Google, Yahoo or Bing. To put it simply, internet browsers use search engines to find the pages you are looking for. When you set a favourite, you set it within the browser to save you having to search again.
