Transmission charges

How did your organisation fare in the 2014/15 Triad period?

Earlier in March the National Grid announced the 2014/15 Triad Periods.  The good news is that if you reacted to the 14 High warnings issued by EDF Energy then you would have hit them all.   Just in case you haven’t seen them yet the 3 periods recorded were:

  • Monday 19 January 2015, 5pm – 5.30pm, 51,276MW

  • Monday 2 February 2015, 5.30pm – 6.00pm 50,859MW

  • Thursday 4 December 2014, 5pm – 5.30pm, 49,655MW

So what does all this mean?

It's relatively simple when you break it down.  If you have chosen a pass through price also referred to as Energy Only, the annual cost of using the National Grid Transmission Service is passed through at cost by us.

You can see this cost on your invoice in our Understanding Your Bill guide.  The cost depends on your average half hourly consumption during the UK’s three national system peaks known as the Triads.

How could you have made savings?

If you used your own generation or came off supply during any or all of the 3 half hours listed below then you will have seen the total amount we collected through the year returned to you. If you reduced on site demand at all during the 3 periods then it’s likely that we returned money to you on March’s invoice.

Cut down your costs now

Most Crown Commercial Service members have the opportunity to reduce what they pay to the National Grid.  Simply sign up to our Free Triad Warning system and you have the power to get involved. EDF Energy will help you to make a plan ready for the 2015 Triad Period which starts in November. To do this we will help you to review your consumption during these periods and work with you to identify what opportunities you have to make this saving. This could range from how to best use on site generation to working with your staff to engage them in how they play their part.

To be part of these savings use our Market Insight service.
