Webinar: Maximising your energy usage

By Vicki Evans, Strategic Account Manager | Posted May 08, 2015

If you attended our recent webinar...

... you’ll know how important it is to manage your capacity and ensure you have the right capacity for your current and future energy usage. If you couldn’t make it, not to worry – these webinars are held quarterly.

What’s been happening?

Earlier this year Ofgem gave the go ahead for Distribution Network Operators to charge for excess capacity, what you use above what you agreed with them in your connection agreement.  As yet none of the operators have but if you are using more than you have secured then you might want to take notice. In conjunction with this announcement capacity charges have also increased in all Distribution Areas compared to 2014 charges.

So the capacity you have is more expensive than last year, and there is a risk that if you are using more than your share you might be hit by a hefty penalty. For me it’s a no brainer, there has never been a better time to take the time to review. If you’re not using what you have secured it’s a good time to consider whether you’ll ever need it and what kind of £ value savings you’d pocket by giving it up.

Access in-depth reports

Our Maximum Import Capacity Reports are freely available from our Customer Service team. These reports provide you with all the information you need at your finger tips to make your capacity decisions. To date, we have issued over 100 reports to our CCS members, allowing them to consider things like:

  • What is the site is used for now?

  • Is this going to increase / decrease? Have I got sufficient capacity too much?

  • Do I need to try to secure some more and in the process do I want to give some away and reduce the monthly costs?

Once you’ve made some decisions or have an idea of any changes you might want to make we will help you to progress those requests providing advice on who you should get in touch with and what you need to do.

What savings can be made?

On average across the Crown Commercial Framework indicative savings by having sufficient but not too much capacity based on consumption to date is as much as £7m.There may be a slice of those savings for you.
